The jargon

The thing about starting at a new place is the jargon. It could fill a dictionary.

At first it felt like everyone was speaking another language. Acronyms, internal shorthand, references that made total sense to everyone except me. Now I catch myself casually using terms I didn’t know a few months ago. A reminder of how quickly we adapt when we give it time.

But teams can make that adaptation easier. What’s second nature to a seasoned employee sounds like gibberish to a new hire. Spelling things out, translating the language, and leaving room for questions makes a real difference in how fast someone feels at home.
